IT'S SIMPLY SMOKE AND DIGITAL MIRRORS

Well this is what I did on the weekend. I bought some incense at the local market, draped a black shirt over our new iMac, set my camera on the tripod and put new batteries in my new flash. I then set off closing every door and window to make our flat as dark as possible so I could start taking pictures of smoke. I know, I know, as my good friend Lisa has already pointed out, I am a photographic GEEK! Check out what some copying and flipping and rotation in Photoshop can end up producing.

THE PROCESS

Okay, the following shots is the procedure I followed to make the final image. All images above were made in a similar fashion.

I first started with one single shot of a stream of smoke coming from some incense.

I then copied that image and flipped it horizontally and merged the images.

I took that image and flipped it vertically and merged those images.

I then copied that image and rotated in 90 degrees and merged them

Then copied and rotated 45 degrees and merged

Then copied and rotated 22.5 degrees and merged

then copied and rotated 11.25 degrees and merged

Then copied and rotated 5.625 degrees and merged and then...
